After playing around on Maya a bit and finally getting it on my own computer, I attempted this mess! I learnt how to use the curve tool, extrude a cylinder and get it to bend with the shape of the curve using subdivisions. Immediately my mind was like ‘that kinda looks like it could be a tentacle’ and so I decided to make a pretty cute sea monster. Or.. pool monster. Below are some work in progress shots. Once I made one tentacle for the back on the monster I just duplicated it, resized and positioned the rest at different angles. The spikes were done by extruding faces or vertices points. The larger tentacles at the front where done the same way. For the pool effect I just used the ocean shader. I ended up changing a few things along the way though. The lighting is not right but that’s something I’m still trying to get the hang of. I also couldn’t get the water effect to render so when I find the time I need to go back and fix it. It’s a bit messy but I think it came out okay!

After completing the bouncing ball task we were then shown how to make a simple chair or desk using the extrude tool. We where then to produce our own attempts at modleing a piece of furniture. Most of the furniture in my house is pretty boring, I wanted to try something that was a little bit more challenging- I ended up writing an entire tutorial out for myself.
I decided to try model a bar, after reading through my notes multiple times, creating pieces of furniture was no longer something I really had to think about.. I could just do it. So I created a modern looking bar with shelves on the wall behind it, I added more chairs along the front and placed them into position. I also added hollowed out lights which hung above the bar. I was going to add bottles for the shelves and bar but I didn't have enough time- I really wan't to recreate this room and make it look better by adding lighting and rendering it.
Next was the bowling ball. I thought this was going to be the easiest one but apparently not. I'm still figuring out Maya so trying to get it to roll the way I wanted it to was proving to be difficult. I also didn't get it to make 'thud' I wanted it to when it first touches the ground. I drew out how I wanted it to be but my animation ended up be very stiff. Last but not least was the crazy bouncy ball. Once I got the hang of squashing and stretching an object I didn't really find this a problem, I attempted two different versions. One were the ball just bounces back and forth and the other where it just keeps jumping up and down. I feel like these two are a bit more characteristic that the other attempts.
We where shown how to use the frames and our X, Y and Z axis to move the object. Once we got the hang of this we where tasked with creating three different types of bouncing ball. A tennis ball, a super bouncy ball and a bowling ball, and any other additional ones we wanted to do.
